Ongoing Volunteer Activities
PMSP TRAIL GUIDES - In March, April and May, there will be a high demand for trained trail guides to help lead school groups on hikes around PMSP. In May, we will need a trail guide available every Wednesday and Friday. If you are still a beginner, don't worry. You will be provided with an in depth written guide and you will be able to shadow one of our experts a time or two so you can see how its done. Contact Bill Toland if you are interested.
PINNACLE MOUNTAIN TRAIL MAINTENANCE - We meet the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month to do maintenance on the various trails at PMSP. Meet at the West Summit parking lot. For specific meeting times and further info, contact Bert Turner or Deb Sallings.
PMSP GREENHOUSE - This is a new volunteer opportunity for those who love to make things grow. The greenhouse is located at PMSP. For further information contact Anne Massey
Pinnacle Mountain State Park - You can always call PMSP when you see a program you are interested in and ask if you can help. Call Sarah, James or Kristina to volunteer. 868-5806 Visit their website for a list of programs.
Delta Rivers Nature Center- This nature center would love to have you come and help. Give them a call to volunteer.
Witt Stephens Jr. Nature Center - Little Rock - Grand Opening Soon. Training for volunteers will be underway soon. Call them to get application. 907-0636 This will be a fantastic place to volunteer for those of us that live near downtown LR. You must attend training and pass a background check so call now to volunteer.
Citizen Science Survey for Wrens - especially for a rare and declining species called the Bewick's Wren. Audubon is looking for volunteers to help find the birds. Fall and winter are prime times to find the Bewick's Wrens in Central Arkansas. Follow this link to the Audubon website which has more information on this project.

2008 Volunteer Activities
Trail building this summer - Jim Langford needs help building trails and bridges in Lake Fort Smith State Park. The trails in the state park are the first six miles of the world-famous Ozark Highlands Trail. Call Jim Langford for more information on his cell 479-234-3971. Leave a message and he will get back with you when he is in range of a cell tower. September 27 - PMSP Clean Up and 75th Anniversary of State Parks Celebration. PMSP is planning a park clean up just like the one that happened 35 years ago when the park first opened. If you want to volunteer to help, you will need to contact Sarah by calling 868-5806. The clean up will be from 9 AM until noon with the bonus of a free lunch at noon.
October 10 - 9 AM - 2:30 PM Robbison Middle School will be coming to PMSP for three different events: River Ecology, Paddling Pointers and Maps & Compasses. We are needing three volunteers to help out. If anyone would like additional training and shadow that day, you are welcome. Bill Toland will be your contact person.
October 11th - National State Expo CAMN will have a booth. Contact Ann Owen for more information. The Natural State Expo promises to showcase “the sustainable side of Arkansas.” Over 60 exhibition booths will feature environmentally friendly products, services, and technology from Arkansas businesses, nonprofit organizations, and state and city agencies. The exhibition booths will be accompanied by “Innovation Alley,” a youth activity and education area.
November 1- AR River Clean-Up - Meet at Alltel Ramp in NLR in the morning (time to be announced) and go out on boats and pick up trash. This is a community service project to help LR prepare for the visitors that are coming to the National trails Symposium. Going out on the river with AGFC personnel is not only educational, but is also a great way to spend a cool morning in November. Contact Anne Massey if you can help.
NOVEMBER 15-18 - National Trails Symposium. This huge national event will be held in Little Rock in 2008. CAMN will have a booth. There will also be great hikes and mobile workshops available for attendees. Come sit at the booth for a little while then enjoy the rest of the day out and about with other trail lovers.
